Forward Shawn Matthias traded to Coloarado

Today the first two teams to really get things going did juts that. The frenzy of the trade deadline was christened by the Colorado Avalanche and the Toronto Maple Leafs. In a what is qualified as a minor trade, the Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Shawn Matthias from the Toronto Maple Leafs. In exchange for Mathias, the Leafs get forward Colin Smith and a 2016 fourth-round draft pick.

Shawn Matthias played in 51 games this year for the Leafs. The 28 years-old has recorded six goals and eleven assists for 17 points with Toronto this year. In 459 Career NHL games, Matthias scored 75 goals and 73 assists for 148 points. Seen as a depth player for the Avalanche Matthias has played for the Florida Panthers, Vancouver Canucks and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was selected 47th overall by the Detroit Red Wings at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.

As for Colin Smith, he recorded thirteen goals and twenty-one assists for thirty four points with the Avalanche’s AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage. Smith played 54 games with the Rampage. A native of Edmonton, Colin Smith was selected in the 7th round (192nd overall) at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
